Contrast in Nostalgia

I've just returned from a week in New York City. On and off, it was my home base for 10 years. When I lived there, I often found myself barreling through the city and finding any way I could to block out the innumerable sensorial bombardments.

Every time I return, the city ends up showing me just how much I've changed. Now, when I'm in the city, I find myself smiling at strangers and taking a pleasant pace when walking. I enjoy the many sights and sounds every block has to offer. So different from my old way of living in the city.

When it comes to Vedic Meditation, it's all about delayed gratification. We're taking sensible, daily steps that steadily move us to who we want to be. Simple and consistent practice leads to solid, long term change. But it can be hard to notice such subtle, yet exponential change. That's where nostalgia can come in handy. It provides contrast.

If you're curious to see more of how you've grown, go back to an old neighborhood. Visit a spot you used to frequent, but haven't been to in a while. It won't take long for you to realize just how far you've come.
